You've found the perfect toy and had an amazing experience. Now what? Proper aftercare is the secret to making your investment last and, more importantly, keeping you safe.
Step 1: Clean Immediately After Use
Don't let it sit! Cleaning right away is the most effective way to prevent bacterial growth and material degradation.
-
For Silicone, Glass, & Steel: Use warm water and a mild, unscented soap or a specialized toy cleaner. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the material.
-
Pro Tip: For non-motorized silicone, glass, and steel toys, a quick run through the top rack of the dishwasher (no detergent) can also do the trick!
Step 2: Dry Thoroughly
Moisture is the enemy. Pat your toy dry completely with a clean, lint-free cloth before storing. This prevents water spots on glass and steel and stops mold from forming on silicone.
Step 3: Store with Care
Your drawer is not a storage solution. Proper storage protects your toys from dust, lint, and damage.
-
Keep Them Separate: Don't let toys touch each other, especially if made from different materials, as they can react and degrade.
-
Use a Storage Bag: A breathable cotton bag or the original packaging is ideal. This keeps them clean and discrete.
-
Avoid Direct Sunlight & Heat: Store in a cool, dry place. Heat can warp silicone and damage electronics.
A Note on Batteries: For rechargeable toys, follow the manufacturer's charging instructions. For battery-operated ones, remove the batteries after use to prevent corrosion.
Taking these few extra minutes will extend the life of your toys and ensure every use is as safe and pleasurable as the first.
